Convenient Access to Behavioral Health Care
Connecting beneficiaries with remote behavioral health providers, TRICARE’s Tele-Behavioral Health Care (TBH) option allows eligible beneficiaries to receive
professional clinical behavioral health services from a TRICARE network provider via videoconference. This program supplements a beneficiary’s
access to appointments with local TRICARE behavioral health providers.
Getting Started
You will set your initial TBH appointment through the TriWest Behavioral Health Contact Center (BHCC).
TriWest BHCC can help you locate an Originating Site (a local TRICARE-authorized provider with videoconferencing capabilities) and set
an appointment with a Distant Provider (a TRICARE-network behavioral health provider). The Distant Provider will connect to you at the
Originating Site by videoconference.
There will be an Online Care Assistant at the Originating Site to ensure the Tele-Behavioral Health Care session is comfortable, safe
and secure.
Referrals and Authorizations
As with any behavioral health care received from a TRICARE network provider, active duty Service members will need a referral before accessing
care under the Tele-Behavioral Health Care benefit. TRICARE Prime active duty family members (ADFM) and retirees do not need a referral
or authorization to set an online care appointment with a Distant Provider, as long as the Tele-Behavioral Health Care appointment is
one of the first eight behavioral health sessions in a fiscal year (Oct. 1 - Sept. 30).
Costs
Active duty Service members and active duty family members enrolled in TRICARE Prime will have no associated charges. There will be applicable
deductibles, cost shares and copays for:
- Beneficiaries using TRICARE Standard and Extra
- TRICARE Prime retirees and their family members
- TRICARE Reserve Select enrollees
