Cancer Clinical Trials
Participation in Cancer Clinical Trials (CCT) became a permanent TRICARE benefit on April 1, 2008. Coverage was previously offered under
the DoD Cancer Prevention and Treatment Clinical Trials
Demonstration.
Beneficiaries under the Demonstration project will retain their benefits.
Under the new benefit, active duty family members, TRICARE-eligible retirees and their families may participate in
National Cancer Institute-sponsored
Phase II or Phase III cancer prevention or clinical treatment trials at approved facilities.
CCT participants registered on or after April 1, 2008 should note the following about the new TRICARE benefit:
- Cost-shares and deductibles will apply when applicable.
- Prior authorization is required for all coverage under the CCT benefit.
- If there is a loss of TRICARE eligibility during a trial, TRICARE will no longer reimburse the trial benefit.
