Existing Requests
As of April 1, 2013, TriWest will no longer be serving the TRICARE West Region. Authorizations from TriWest will be honored by UnitedHealthcare Military & Veterans through May 30, 2013 and/or through the valid date on the authorization (whichever is earlier).
New Requests
Medical services that begin April 1, 2013 or later, or changes to an existing authorization after March 31, 2013, will need to be coordinated directly with UnitedHealthcare (877-988-9378; www.uhcmilitarywest.com).
Referrals
Referrals are necessary when you need certain services or procedures that your primary care manager (PCM) or military treatment facility (MTF) does not provide. For medical care received on or before March 31, 2013, your PCM/MTF will submit a referral request to TriWest. Registered TriWest.com users can view referral and authorization information electronically.
Prior Authorization
Some specialty care requires your provider to get authorization from TRICARE before you can seek the care. If that is needed, your provider will request prior authorization from the regional TRICARE contractor. For medical care received on or before March 31, 2013, your PCM/MTF will submit a prior authorization request to TriWest.
