TriWest Receives URAC Health Network Accreditation
PHOENIX — TriWest Healthcare Alliance announced today that it has been awarded health network accreditation from URAC, a Washington, D.C.-based health care accrediting organization that establishes quality standards for the health care industry.
"Every day we are mindful of the critical sacrifices made by our customers—America's military family—in defense of our freedom," said David J. McIntyre, Jr., President and CEO of TriWest Healthcare Alliance. "To return to them the peace of mind that comes with definitive quality health care and excellent customer service is the very least we can do. We are grateful URAC examined our business and determined that our health care network meets their rigorous standard of quality."
TriWest is the U.S. Department of Defense's contractor for management of the TRICARE health entitlement program available to active duty military members, their families, retirees and retirees' families. When health care cannot be provided at a military installation, TriWest connects families with an extensive network of more than 95,000 community physicians, hospitals and other health care providers.
"TriWest should be commended for meeting strict quality standards," said Charles Stellar, URAC Board Chair. "It is critically important for health care organizations to make a commitment to quality and accountability. URAC accreditation is a demonstration of that commitment."
URAC's Health Network Accreditation standards include key quality benchmarks for:
- Network management
- Provider credentialing
- Utilization management
- Quality management and improvement
- Consumer protection
Currently, 34 states and the federal government have designated URAC accreditation as a leading industry standard.
