Update to Cancer Scanning Coverage

TriWest has received an update to the TRICARE Policy Manual Chapter 5, Section 4.1 – Nuclear Medicine, which allows coverage of Positron emission tomography (PET) and PET/Computed tomography (CT) scans for the diagnosis, staging, restaging, and monitoring of treatment of lymphoma. PET/CT combines the two scanning technologies to give providers a more accurate diagnosis of cancer.

The effective date is January 1, 2007 with a directed implementation date of October 10, 2007.
