VA Expands CHAMPVA Services for Eligible Veteran Families and Caregivers

WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 31, 2024) – The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is expanding medical care coverage to Veteran family members and primary family caregivers participating in its Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA).

At the end of May, VA will include audio-only telehealth services, extended mental health care, and contraception services to CHAMPVA health care program participants. After May 31, Veteran family members and primary family caregivers will have these services covered through CHAMPVA.

CHAMPVA is a federal health care program for certain spouses, certain surviving spouses, children and primary family caregivers of eligible Veterans. Under CHAMPVA, VA shares the cost of medically necessary medical services and supplies with eligible program beneficiaries.
