Veterans Enjoy Adaptive Sports at National Summer Sports Clinic

SAN DIEGO (June 4, 2023) — The 16th annual National Veterans Summer Sports Clinic (NVSCC) June 4-9 gathered nearly 130 enthusiastic Veterans from across the nation to participate in new adaptive activities for learning skills, gaining confidence and enjoying unique camaraderie.

Held in San Diego, Calif., the NVSSC is organized by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to offer eligible Veterans an energizing event for their rehabilitation.

Veterans enrolled in VA health care and living with spinal cord injuries, amputations, visual impairments, neurological conditions, PTSD, burns, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other conditions are eligible for the event. The largest yet clinic provided a unique opportunity for adaptive sports and recreation instruction and training in fitness, cycling, yoga, kayaking, sailing, surfing and mediation.

Wounded Warrior Project and Veterans Canteen Services co-present the clinic, and TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) is an annual supporting sponsor.

“We are extremely proud of our ongoing support of and commitment to adaptive sports and activities for Veterans,” said Donna Hoffmeier, TriWest Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications and Advocacy.

“This clinic is a leader in adaptive summer sports activities for Veterans living with injuries, while opening doors to new experiences and connections,” Hoffmeier added.
