Free VA TeleMental Health Apps Help Veterans Cope With PTSD
WASHINGTON D.C. (August 21, 2023) – Veterans and U.S. Service Members suffer from PTSD more often than the general population, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
However, many Veterans are unaware of free resources, and some Veterans and Service Members resist seeking help for their symptoms, VA adds.
Now, Veterans have access to free, easy-to-use apps to help them manage PTSD, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and other behavioral health issues. The VA’s TeleMental Health program provides Veterans access to VA’s suite of mental health apps, enabling them to better manage their symptoms.
Veterans can even remotely connect with a VA behavioral health provider from a location of their preference. All that is needed is a computer or an internet-connected device.
The convenient self-guided apps supplement traditional VA mental health treatment. Users can also quickly connect to support including the Veterans Crisis Line and the Vet Center Call Center.
The apps developed by VA include input from Veterans who have experienced PTSD and other mental health challenges. They have rigorous privacy standards and can be downloaded anonymously from common mobile app marketplaces.
