VA Emphasizes Early Screening During National Colorectal Cancer Month
WASHINGTON (March 11, 2024) – March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is highlighting the importance of colon cancer screening and how it is now more accessible to Veterans.
According to VA, colon cancer is one of the most common cancers. The increased occurrence of colon cancer among older Veterans motivates VA to shine a light on the cancer and who needs to get screened for it.
Proper screening is essential to detect colon cancer at an early stage, and all adults 45-75 are recommended to receive regular screening. VA emphasizes that Veterans can be screened for colon cancer from the comfort of their homes with an easy-to-use test kit, in addition to more thorough screening methods.
According to VA, these screening methods are important for older Veterans because it is crucial to detect colon cancer early when treatment is most effective.
