National Veterans Wheelchair Games Offered Athletes Competition and Community
PORTLAND, Ore. (July 9, 2023) – The 42nd annual National Veterans Wheelchair Games held July 4-9 gathered nearly 500 enthusiastic Veterans from across the nation to compete in 23 adaptive sports events.
Hosted in Portland, Ore., the Games were organized by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as the world's largest annual wheelchair sports event for Veterans with a range of injuries. Veterans with spinal cord injuries, amputations, visual impairments, neurological conditions, PTSD, burns, traumatic brain injury (TBI), and other conditions competed in the event.
The Games, held at venues across Portland, included rugby, softball, pickleball, basketball, field events, air rifle/pistol, cycling, bowling, bass fishing, adaptive fitness, ping pong and more.
The Games were co-presented by the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), and other organizations including TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) sponsored individual events. TriWest sponsored the bowling competition as well as provided on-site encouragement at the Games.
