VA Redesigns ‘Burn Pit Registry’ to Help Veterans Exposed to Airborne Hazards

WASHINGTON (August 5, 2024) — The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has launched its redesigned and expanded Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry to better understand and ultimately treat health challenges of Veterans exposed to airborne toxins during their service.

According to VA, “the Burn Pit Registry” or “the Registry” is a comprehensive database combining Veteran and service member data on service-related airborne hazard exposure. VA’s redesigned and expanded registry captures additional details of exposures to airborne toxins while serving and their health effects.

Participation in the registry does not impact VA health care or benefits, according to VA. However, increased participation does help VA understand the health challenges faced by the Veteran population overall.
