National Chronic Disease Awareness Month Spotlights Obesity as a Rising Health Concern
PHOENIX (July 25, 2025) — A recent Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study reports the prevalence of chronic disease among all age groups in the U.S. population is rising.
The April 2025 study surveyed multiple chronic conditions and found obesity is the most common chronic condition in the U.S., significantly affecting lives and leading to long-term health issues.
For military and Veteran communities, obesity is also a serious concern. A 2020 CDC study found that 80% of Department of Veterans Affairs patients are overweight or obese, while as many as two-thirds of active duty and Reserve members meet obesity criteria.
As a chronic condition, obesity can be a life-long health issue that worsens and requires ongoing medical care.
July is National Chronic Disease Awareness Month, spotlighting that serious conditions like obesity affect millions. Education is crucial to reducing their prevalence.
