National Suicide Prevention Month: Discussing Suicide and Recognizing Crisis Signs
PHOENIX (Sept. 15, 2025) — The topic of suicide is a sensitive and complex public health issue that impacts the lives of many people.
According to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 49,000 people died by suicide in 2023. In the general population, this equates to one suicide every 11 minutes.
Statistics show that suicide rates among U.S. military personnel and Veterans have been increasing over the last decade. Veterans are 1.5 times more likely to die by suicide than the general population, with roughly 17 Veterans dying by suicide per day.
TriWest Healthcare Alliance (TriWest) is committed to the fight against suicide by educating military-connected and Veteran communities. Addressing suicide can reduce the sense of isolation people feel and help them see alternatives to self-harm. It can reduce the stigma and save lives.
