VA Empowers Veterans With Knowledge About Prostate Cancer Screening
PHOENIX (January 5, 2026) — According to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), approximately 15,000 Veterans each year are diagnosed and treated by VA for prostate cancer.
Fortunately, more than 200,000 Veterans are prostate cancer survivors due to effective screening, VA emphasizes.
VA is dedicated to providing effective screening for older men to help reduce risk of prostate cancer death.
According to VA, certain men may be at increased risk of prostate cancer:
- Men with a family history of prostate cancer
- Men that have been exposed to Agent Orange or other toxins
- Black male Veterans
- Men with a known variant in their genes
Before scheduling prostate cancer screening, VA recommends male Veterans consult their health care provider. Screening may not be necessary for every older Veteran, but a health care provider can help determine if it is recommended.
