From a Severed Spine to Reaching Goals – One Determined and Inspiring Step at a Time

PHOENIX (December 19, 2025) — Tyler Stein proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years, retiring from his demanding military career in 2018.

Following his service, he enjoyed activities like hiking, camping, and motorcycle riding that he didn’t have time to pursue while serving.

In 2022, Stein’s life dramatically changed one day while motorcycle riding and following another rider more familiar with the terrain. When the rider ahead unexpectedly took a sharp turn, Stein unknowingly approached too fast and went over a 40-foot cliff.

His fall severed his spine and broke numerous bones, requiring a long rehabilitation journey. TriWest Healthcare Alliance is humbled to learn it has had a small but proud part in Stein’s ongoing rehabilitation through its Community Care Network Region 4 contract.
