Exercise as a Tool for Improving Mental Health

PHOENIX (May 27, 2026) — Recent large-scale research confirms that regular physical activity can significantly improve symptoms of anxiety and depression. Even light to moderate exercise is enough to see change in the form of emotional resiliency, healthier coping mechanisms, as well as improved mood, cognition, and sleep.

May is National Mental Health Awareness Month, focused on the central theme “More Good Days, Together.” It emphasizes the link between the body and the brain, and how human connection can improve the mental health journey. Utilizing a health coach, patients can move from the "why" of mental wellness to the "how" of daily physical habits.

Watch this new video with TriWest’s Samantha Sikorski, Health Coach, Disease Management, sharing how exercise helps patients improve their mental health.
