Julie A. Townsend
Chief Planning and Implementation Officer
Julie serves as Chief Planning and Implementation Officer for TriWest Healthcare Alliance. Julie’s oversight includes TriWest’s strategic and operational planning activities, market research and business development, program and project management, and driving organizational quality and performance. She joined the TriWest leadership team in 2001.
Julie has more than 30 years of experience in health care. Her broad and diverse career includes experience in provider, payor, government and consulting health care management.
In addition to her experience working with TriWest, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Defense, Julie owned and operated a consulting firm that provided strategy and management consulting services for more than 30 clients. Her portfolio of clients included private sector companies, government agencies and TriWest.
She has also served as an adjunct professor for George Washington University, teaching strategic planning to graduate students. Additionally, she served as the executive director of state associations for both managed care organizations and providers. For more than a decade, Julie was a hospital administrator in community and teaching hospitals with Samaritan Health Services (now Banner Health).
Julie holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a master’s degree in health care administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Julie has received many awards for distinguished community service and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
